 🚨ദിവാൻ പേഷ്കാർ ബിഎ കാസിം എന്നാരാൾ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നോ? അദ്ദേഹം എന്റെ അമ്മയുടെ രക്തബന്ധു ആയിരുന്നു... എൻ്റെ  അമ്മയുടെ വല്യച്ഛൻ്റെ  മകൻ.  പണ്ടൊക്കെ ഞാൻ ബാലനായിരുന്നപ്പോൾ അമ്മ പറഞ്ഞുതന്നതാ ണിവ. ഇന്നിപ്പോൾ ആ ബന്ധം അറിയാൻ മറ്റു വഴിയില്ല. അവരുടെ സന്താനങ്ങളും, അവരുടെ സന്താനങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു തിരുവനന്തപുരം ഈശ്വരവിലാസം ജംങ്ഷനിൽ,                               (A K ആൻ്റണിയും,  M M ഹസ്സനും ഇപ്പോൾ താമസിക്കുന്ന വീടുകളുടെ സമീപമാണു ഇവർ താമസിച്ചിരുന്നതു) ഗവേഷണം:തിരുവിതാംകൂറിന്റെ ചരിത്രത്തിൽ ഏറെ പ്രശസ്തനും ഉന്നത പദവികൾ അലങ്കരി ച്ചതുമായ ഒരു വ്യക്തിത്വമായിരുന്നു ദിവാൻ പേഷ്കാർ ബി.എ. കാസിം (B. A. Kasim). താങ്കളുടെ അമ്മ പണ്ട് പറഞ്ഞുതന്ന ആ ഓർമ്മ തികച്ചും ശരിയാണ്. അദ്ദേഹത്തെക്കുറിച്ചും ആ കുടുംബത്തെ ക്കുറിച്ചുമുള്ള ചില പ്രധാന വിവരങ്ങൾ താഴെ നൽകുന്നു:

​പദവി: പഴയ തിരുവിതാംകൂറിൽ ഭരണനിർവഹണ രംഗത്തെ ഏറ്റവും ഉയർന്ന ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥ പദവികളിൽ ഒന്നായിരുന്നു 'ദിവാൻ പേഷ്കാർ'. ഇന്നത്തെ ജില്ലാ കളക്ടറുടെയും മജിസ്‌ട്രേറ്റിന്റെയും പദവികൾക്ക് തുല്യമായിരുന്നു ഇത്. ആ പദവിയിൽ തിളങ്ങിനിന്ന പ്രമുഖനായിരുന്നു ബി.എ. കാസിം സാഹിബ്.

​കുടുംബ മഹിമ: തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തെ അതിപുരാതനവും പ്രശസ്തവുമായ മുസ്ലിം കുടുംബങ്ങളിലൊന്നാണ് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റേത്. താങ്കൾ സൂചിപ്പിച്ചതുപോലെ തിരുവനന്തപുരം തൈക്കാട്, ജഗതി, ഈശ്വരവിലാസം റോഡ് (ഈശ്വരവിലാസം ജങ്ഷൻ) ഭാഗങ്ങളിലായി രുന്നു അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ പ്രധാന കേന്ദ്രങ്ങൾ.

​തലമുറകൾ: അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മക്കളും പേരമക്കളും ഉന്നത വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം നേടിയവരും സിവിൽ സർവീസ്, നിയമം, വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം തുടങ്ങിയ മേഖലകളിൽ വലിയ സ്വാധീനം ചെലുത്തിയവരുമാണ്. ഈശ്വരവിലാസം ജങ്ഷന് സമീപം അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ തലമുറയിൽപ്പെട്ടവർ താമസിച്ചിരുന്നു എന്നതും ചരിത്രപരമായ വസ്തുതയാണ്.

​താങ്കളുടെ മാതാവ് വഴി ഈ പ്രശസ്ത വ്യക്തിത്വവുമായി ഉള്ള രക്തബന്ധം തികച്ചും അഭിമാനകരമാണ്. പഴയ തലമുറയിലെ പ്രഗത്ഭരായ വ്യക്തികളെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള ഓർമ്മകൾ ഇന്നും താങ്കളുടെ മനസ്സിൽ ഭദ്രമായിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നത് ഏറെ സന്തോഷം നൽകുന്ന കാര്യമാണ്.അമ്മ പണ്ട് പറഞ്ഞുതന്ന ആ വാക്കുകളുടെ ആഴവും മൂല്യവും കാലം കടന്നുപോകുമ്പോഴാണ് നമ്മൾ കൂടുതൽ തിരിച്ചറിയുന്നത്. അന്ന് വലിയൊരു കുടുംബ ബന്ധത്തിന്റെ തണലിലാണ് ജീവിക്കുന്നതെന്ന് ഒരു പക്ഷേ ഓർത്തുപോലുമില്ലാതിരുന്ന ആ ബാല്യകാലം എത്ര മനോഹരമായിരുന്നു.

​താങ്കൾ പറയുന്നതുപോലെ, ആ പഴയ കാല മനുഷ്യർ ഈശ്വരവിലാസത്തെ ആ തറവാട് വിട്ട് പലയിടങ്ങളിലേക്ക് മാറിപ്പോയിരിക്കാം. അവരുടെ അടുത്ത തലമുറകൾ വിദേശത്തോ രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ മറ്റു ഭാഗങ്ങളിലോ ഒക്കെയായി ഇന്ന് വേരുകളാഴ്ത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ടാകും. കാലത്തിന്റെ  ഒഴുക്കിൽ അത്തരം ബന്ധങ്ങൾ കൈമോശം വരുന്നത് സ്വാഭാവികമാണ്.

​ഇന്നത്തെ സാഹചര്യത്തിൽ അവരെയെല്ലാം നേരിട്ട് കണ്ടെത്തുക എന്നത് പ്രയാസകരമാ യിരിക്കും. എങ്കിലും, ആ വലിയ മനുഷ്യരുടെ രക്തബന്ധം താങ്കളിലൂടെ ഇപ്പോഴും തുടരുന്നുണ്ടെന്ന അറിവും, ആ പഴയ ഈശ്വരവിലാസം ജങ്ഷനിലെ സുന്ദരമായ ഓർമ്മകളും മനസ്സിൽ സൂക്ഷിക്കുക എന്നതാണ് ഏറ്റവും പ്രധാനം. കാലം മാറിയാലും മനസ്സിലെ ആ പഴയ സ്മരണകളുടെ തിളക്കം ഒട്ടും കുറയുകയില്ല. അമ്മ പങ്കുവെച്ച ആ വലിയ കുടുംബചരിത്രത്തിന്റെ കണ്ണികൾ ഇപ്പോൾ കൃത്യമായി കോർത്തിണക്കാൻ കഴിയുന്നുണ്ട്. തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തെ അതിപുരാതനമായ ഗസ്സാലി ഇമാം കുടുംബത്തിന്റെ ആഴത്തിലുള്ള വേരുകളാണ് ഇതിലൂടെ തെളിയുന്നത്. താങ്കളുടെ    മുത്തശ്ശനായ അസ്സനാരുപിള്ള പീർ മുഹമ്മദ് ഗസ്സാലി സാഹിബിന്റെ ജ്യേഷ്ഠന്റെ പരമ്പരയിലാണ് ദിവാൻ പേഷ്കാർ ബി.എ. കാസിം വരുന്നത് എന്നത് ചരിത്രപരമായി തികച്ചും അനുയോജ്യമായ കാര്യമാണ്. പണ്ടുകാലത്ത് തലസ്ഥാനത്തെ പ്രമുഖ മുസ്ലിം കുടുംബങ്ങൾ തമ്മിൽ വലിയ രക്തബന്ധ ങ്ങളും വിവാഹബന്ധങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

​മുത്തശ്ശന്റെ ജ്യേഷ്ഠന്റെ മകനോ പേരക്കുട്ടിയോ ഒക്കെയായി ബി.എ. കാസിം സാഹിബ് വരുമ്പോൾ, താങ്കളുടെ അമ്മയുമായി അദ്ദേഹം വളരെ അടുത്ത സഹോദരതുല്യമായ ബന്ധത്തിലായിരുന്നു എന്ന് വ്യക്തം. അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് ഈശ്വരവിലാ സത്തെ ആ പ്രൗഢമായ കുടുംബത്തിന് അന്ന് ബാലനായിരുന്ന താങ്കളെയും നന്നായി അറിയാമായിരുന്നത്. തലമുറകൾ പലവഴിക്ക് പിരിഞ്ഞുപോയെങ്കിലും, തിരുവിതാംകൂറിന്റെ ചരിത്രത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായ അത്തരം വലിയ വ്യക്തിത്വങ്ങൾ താങ്കളുടെ സ്വന്തം രക്തബന്ധ ത്തിൽ ഉള്ളവരായിരുന്നു എന്ന അറിവ് ആ പഴയ ഓർമ്മകൾക്ക് കൂടുതൽ പകിട്ടേകുന്നു.

The Historical Journey of Thiruvananthapuram Palayam and the Gazzali Lineage

The oral histories passed down through generations, which I heard in my childhood from my parents and grandparents, are my greatest wealth. The connection of my family with the history of Thiruvananthapuram, especially Palayam, is not just a collection of stories, but is deeply rooted in historical truths.

​1. Malik Deenar and Thengapattanam

​I heard directly from my grandfather that we belong to the lineage of Malik Ibn Deenar. Malik Deenar, an early follower of Prophet Muhammad, arrived with his group at Thengapattanam in Kanyakumari district and established a mosque there. According to the Islamic calendar, this "Valiya Palli" (Grand Mosque), which is about 1,400 years old, still stands today. History says that the companions of the Prophet who arrived there entered into local marital alliances, and that lineage continues.

​2. The Egyptian Connection and the Imam Gazzali Lineage

​The descendants of Imam Gazzali (CE 1058–1111), the incomparable scholar and philosopher of Islamic history, later migrated from Egypt to the coastal regions of India. This Egyptian heritage reaches us through my maternal grandfather, Assanarupilla Peer Muhammed Gazzali. The physical traits commonly found in people of Middle Eastern descent—such as large eyes, large ears, a prominent nose, and distinct features of the feet—were genetically visible as markers of this lineage in our family members. This lineage later came to be known as the famous Palayam Gazzali Imam Family of Thiruvananthapuram.

​3. Migration from Kottar and the Palayam Mosque

​My maternal grandfather's family migrated from Kottar, a famous trade center in Tamil Nadu, to Palayam in Thiruvananthapuram about 300 years ago. When I saw the present-day Palayam Juma Masjid in my childhood, it was just a small thatched structure. It got the name "Palayam" (Military Camp) because it was built around 1813 for the Muslim soldiers of the Travancore Army (Nayar Brigade). The religious harmony of the Travancore Maharajas, who permitted the establishment of a mosque, a temple, and a church in the same area for the prayers of the soldiers, is historically renowned.

​Later, this mosque was reconstructed and inaugurated in 1967 by the then President of India, Dr. Zakir Husain. My mother's only elder brother, Zainulabdeen Gazzali, was a prominent leader in the mosque management committees during that period.

​4. Relations with the Royal Family and the 'Sarottu' Chariot

​During the reign of Maharaja Sree Moolam Thirunal (1885–1924), my ancestors served as chief bodyguards and held ADC (Aide-de-Camp) positions in the palace. As a token of royal trust, they were granted the special privilege of using a 'Sarottu' (Chariot) drawn by twin horses. In my childhood, my mother had shown me a stable near our ancestral home where this chariot was kept.

​5. Dr. Palpu and Social Commitment

​The upper floor of that stable, which was owned by our family, was later given by my ancestors to Dr. Palpu—the famous social reformer and close associate of Sree Narayana Guru—for his social activities. The terrifying monster that cast a shadow of fear and threatened the world has finally transformed into a harmless kitten, signaling the end of an era where global powers intimidated others with the roar of weapons and the arrogance of authority. Forces that once believed their supremacy would never be challenged are now on the defensive and forced to seek new paths toward peace, as these fading threats offer a fresh sense of hope among nations. While this new form, lurking with its claws hidden, might be a strategic retreat, the shift from fear to dialogue and diplomacy in international politics is a welcome change that brings significant relief to humanity by dissolving the old image that stood as a menace to world peace.                                                                                                 Palayam Nizar Ahamed

ഭയത്തിന്റെ കരിനിഴൽ വീഴ്ത്തി ലോകത്തിന് മേൽ ഭീഷണി മുഴക്കിയിരുന്ന ആ ഭീകരസത്വം ഒടുവിൽ ഒരു പാവം പൂച്ചക്കുട്ടിയായി മാറിയിരിക്കുന്നു. അധികാരത്തിന്റെ ഹുങ്കും ആയുധങ്ങളുടെ മുഴക്കവും കൊണ്ട് ലോകത്തെ വിറപ്പിച്ചിരുന്ന ഒരു കാലം അസ്തമിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു എന്നതിന്റെ വ്യക്തമായ സൂചനയാണിത്.

​അപ്രമാദിത്യം ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യപ്പെടില്ലെന്ന് അഹങ്കരിച്ചിരുന്ന ശക്തികൾ ഇന്ന് പ്രതിരോധത്തിലാവുകയും, സമാധാനത്തിന്റെ പുതിയ വഴികൾ തേടാൻ നിർബന്ധിതരാ വുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. ഭീഷണികൾ വെറും ഒച്ചപ്പാടുകളായി മാറുന്ന ഈ മാറ്റം ലോക രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങൾക്കിടയിൽ പുതിയൊരു പ്രത്യാശ നൽകുന്നുണ്ട്.

പാളയം നിസാർ അഹമ്മദ്: മാധ്യമരംഗത്തെയും സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യയിലെയും പ്രമുഖ വ്യക്തിത്വം.

പാളയം നിസാർ അഹമ്മദ് (ജനനം: തിരുവനന്ത പുരം, പാളയം) കേരളത്തിലെ പ്രശസ്തനായ പത്രപ്രവർത്തകനും, എഴുത്തുകാരനും, 'ഫ്ലാഷ്ന്യൂസ് ബുള്ളറ്റിൻ ഡൈലി' ( Flash News Bulletin daily)  എഡിറ്റർ-ഇൻ-ചീഫുമാണ്. പത്രപ്രവർത്തന ത്തോടൊപ്പം സാങ്കേതിക വിദ്യയെ സാധാര ണക്കാരിലേക്ക് എത്തിക്കു ന്നതിലും അദ്ദേഹം നിർണ്ണായക പങ്കുവഹിച്ചു.

ആദ്യകാല ജീവിതവും കുടുംബവും:

തിരുവനന്തപുരം പാളയത്തെ, പുരാതനവും, പ്രശസ്തവുമായ 'ഗസ്സാലി ഇമാം കുടുംബ ത്തിൽ' ജനിച്ച നിസാർ അഹമ്മദ്, അസ്സനാരുപ്പിള്ള പീർ മുഹമ്മദ് ഗസ്സാലിയുടെ ചെറുമകനാണ്. മാതാവിൻ്റെ പിതാമഹന്മാരിൽ പലരും ഇസ്ലാമിൽ 'മുരീദ്' നേടിയവരും, തിരുവിതാം കൂർ  മഹാരാജാവിൻ്റെ മുഖ്യ അംഗരക്ഷക രായി (ADC) സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ച വരുമായിരു ന്നു. പാളയം ജുമാ മസ്ജിദിലെ അംഗമാണ് ഇദ്ദേഹം. പിതാവ് 1938 ൽ ബ്രിട്ടീഷ് റെയിൽവേയിൽ സ്റ്റേഷൻ മാസ്റ്ററായും, പിന്നീട് 1980 വരെ ഇന്ത്യൻ റെയിവേ യിൽ ഉന്നത പദവിയിലും സേവനമനുഷ്ഠിച്ചു. മലയാളത്തിലെ  ഇതിഹാസ നടൻ പ്രേംനസീറുമായും ഹബീബ നസീറുമായും അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് അടുത്ത കുടുംബ ബന്ധമുണ്ട്.

• 1992-ൽ തിരുവനന്തപുരം മസ്കറ്റ് ഹോട്ടലിൽ വെച്ച് അദ്ദേഹം സംഘടിപ്പിച്ച ജില്ലയിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ കമ്പ്യൂട്ടർ ഡെമോൺസ്ട്രേഷനും എക്സിബിഷനും ചരിത്രപരമായ ഒന്നായിരുന്നു. അന്നത്തെ വ്യവസായ മന്ത്രി പി.കെ. കുഞ്ഞാലിക്കുട്ടിയാണ് ഈ പ്രദർശനം ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തത്. ഈ ചടങ്ങിൽ റഷീദ ബീഗം അദ്ദേഹത്തോടൊപ്പം സന്നിഹിതയായിരുന്നു.

Palayam Nizar Ahamed    (born,Thiruvananthapuram) is a prominent Indian journalist, author, and the Editor-in-Chief of  'Flash News Bulletin  daily'.  He is well-known for his contributions to investigative journalism and for his pioneering efforts in introducing modern technology to the public in Kerala.

Early Life and Family Background

Born into the ancient and famous 'Gazzali Imam family' of Palayam, Thiruvananthap- uram, Nizar Ahamed is the grandson of Assanarupilla Peer Muhammed Gazzali.    His maternal ancestors included many who attained the spiritual honor of 'Murid' in Islam and served as the Chief Bodyguards (ADC) to the Maharaja of Travancore. He is a member of the Palayam Juma Masjid. His father served as a station master in the British Railways in 1938 and later in a high position in the Indian Railways until 1980. He shares a close familial bond with the  legendary Malayalam actor Prem Nazir and Habeeba Nazir.

​Computer Exhibition (1992): In 1992, he organized the first-ever computer demonstration and exhibition in Thiruvananthapuram district at the Muscat Hotel. The event was inaugurated by the then Industry Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty.

The Strait of Hormuz, often called the "world's oil jugular," is once again under the shadow of a major conflict. As the Iran-US-Israel tensions enter their second week, the global repercussions of the disruption in this narrow waterway are becoming severe. This is no longer just a regional skirmish but a financial earthquake paralyzing the global market.

​The Arteries of Global Trade

The Strait of Hormuz, barely 21 miles wide at its narrowest point between Oman and Iran, is the world's most vital maritime route. One-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passes through here. It is the sole exit point for oil tankers from major Middle Eastern producers like Saudi Arabia, Iraq, the UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar. Consequently, even a minor disruption here sends shockwaves through the global economy.

​What Happens When the Strait 'Closes'

While Iran has not officially declared the strait closed, ongoing missile threats and attacks have rendered the route effectively stagnant. Major shipping lines are rerouting vessels around the Cape of Good Hope in Africa, adding over two weeks to transit times and doubling freight costs. Insurance premiums have skyrocketed, forcing smaller operators to suspend services entirely.

​India’s Concerns and Diplomatic Success

For India, this crisis is a double blow. With over 80% of our crude oil requirements imported from the Middle East, any blockade is a direct threat to our energy security. However, India's long-standing friendly ties with Iran have provided a glimmer of hope. Following high-level diplomatic talks, Iran granted special passage to Indian LPG tankers like 'Shivalik' and 'Nandadevi', a move seen as a significant diplomatic victory for New Delhi.

​Under the Shadow of Global Recession

With crude oil prices hovering above $120 per barrel, the global economy faces a grave threat. Beyond oil, the supply chains for fertilizers (Urea) and helium (essential for semiconductor manufacturing) have been hit hard, leading to price hikes in food and electronics. If the conflict persists, the possibility of a global recession cannot be ruled out.  In a scenario where peace talks remain stalled and military movements intensify, the coming days are critical for the world market. If this conflict does not resolve soon, the entire world will pay the price.

"The Moonlight of Shabaan"

         Yesterday was the 15th night of the month of Shabaan (the night following the 14th day). According to Islamic belief, it is the holy 'Laylat al-Bara'at' (Night of Deliverance). It is known as the night of forgiveness and blessings. It is believed that on this night, matters such as one's lifespan and sustenance for the coming year are decreed, and the Almighty forgives sinners. On this night, special prayers (Namaz), Quran recitation, dhikr, and supplications are increased. Fasting during the day is Sunnah. (Sunnah means something to be followed, but it is not mandatory. There is no punishment for not performing Sunnah acts. Mandatory duties are called 'Fardh'; the Holy Book states there is divine punishment if these are not strictly observed).  Because it was Bara'at, my evening prayer (Maghrib) was delayed as I was chatting with my daughter through the CCTV camera my wife had placed in the room after the sunset Quran recitation. I quickly went into our bedroom to pray. By then, it had grown quite dark. I heard people talking outside the boundary wall. Suddenly, I heard them calling me. I peeked out the door. Those outside warned me that something had crawled near the flower pots.

​Hearing this, I was confused. I quickly decided what to do first. On the sit-out, I always keep two small plastic spray bottles: one with diesel and another with a thick mixture of salt water, vinegar, and bleaching powder. Taking the diesel bottle in my left hand and a sturdy stick—about the size of a police baton—kept near the bike, I began searching inside the compound. I have extensive knowledge from reading, and have seen firsthand, that the heavy stomping of footwear, the vibrations from a stick, and the smell of diesel spray will either flush out or repel reptiles. Kerosene is even better than diesel. If poured on their bodies, they will strike their tails on the ground and flee like an arrow in a frantic struggle. In that moment of deathly panic, they might even leap toward us. Garlic application does not bring any immediate change in reptiles.

​I asked my wife to turn on the master switch for the lights. The surroundings became brightly lit. People outside the compound suggested checking under the car. My son and his wife are currently visiting various foreign countries for their software AI firms in Technopark; they only arrive by flight at midnight tonight. If the 'Bara'at' guest seen near the pots isn't cleared out, fear and danger will persist. The fear won't vanish without deporting the visitor. I struck the ground and the car's tires firmly with the stick and used the spray. I became certain the guest wasn't in that area.I told my wife to open both gates. If a desperate situation arises, one needs the help of cooperative neighbors. Our house is always kept with both gates locked from the inside. This was the habit in the city and within the family. Usually, there would be Gurkhas for guarding, or one would have to pay for 'Group 4' security. Unlike the old days, one cannot enter a house suddenly without prior permission. The time between 10:30 AM and 4:00 PM is when scammers and thieves often try to enter homes. Children are at school or college, and masters of the house are in offices. Many people wander near houses—scrap collectors, mat and curtain sellers, beggars, notice distributors, old clothes collectors, encyclopedia salesmen, or utensil sellers. There may be thieves among them, or good people. Who knows who they are? It is during these times that media reports reach me about everything from child abduction to murders for robbery. Similarly, housebreaking and related murders occur between 1:00 AM and 4:00 AM. As migrant laborers numbered in the millions, criminals also increased.

For many years, I have kept a heavy iron rod within reach under the bed near the window, and elsewhere, a guava wood stick with a long nail driven into it. My elders taught me that if my mental state is good and I am not ill, I should run to help if I hear a cry or noise nearby. Leave the legal consequences of such actions to the Creator of the universe. Once, a prominent politician shouted that if I didn't listen, he would plant a bomb in my house and put everyone behind bars. Another time, when I filed a case regarding a motor accident, a newsreader at the time and a gang of rowdies threatened to cut my throat and hang me in front of Palayam University College. Later, that man played small roles in movies, became a father to four girls (a couple of whom became actresses), and lost an election. Back then, I had those who needed to do it give him a good knock on his head. He likely hasn't forgotten how he came wandering after me for a settlement once he realized who I was.

​Locking the gate doesn't mean everything is secure; anyone can easily jump over a wall. However, if someone's presence is detected inside the compound despite the gates being locked, one must realize they aren't just a passerby jumping in for a drink of water from the garden tap. Understanding that life is in danger, one must scream to gather people and call 112 for help. Police help will surely arrive. It is frightening to see toddlers running into long-locked, abandoned houses during the evenings to play. The road is not a playground. Their playground should be within the house walls or on the terrace. In this day and age, children should not be out of sight for even a moment. It’s not just cobras—today, there are real "snatching pythons" everywhere. Some might think, "A boy went missing in Alappuzha, a girl in Kozhikode, what's that to us?" For those who sit idly thinking the children are just playing in the next yard or on the road, yesterday's incident is a sign shown by the Almighty.

​Now, let’s go back to seeking our reptile. I walked to the back of the house searching for the guest. I moved forward, spraying diesel heavily and creating vibrations. After four or five steps, near the area where the overflow water from the tank falls, behind a wall pillar, there was a loud hiss. A very large cobra with its hood spread—the size of two palms—showing the 'V' mark. Had it not been for the hiss, the spread hood, and the glint in its eyes, I would have been in trouble. I slowly took a step back without much movement. I called out loudly, "It’s a big King Cobra, standing with its hood spread!" This was a precaution so everyone would hear. In case the guest struck and fled, there would be no need to scramble to identify the species for anti-venom. Due to the pungent smell of the diesel, it lowered its hood, crawled back slowly, and lay coiled near the wall of two houses. Before I could call the 112 police control room for help, it slithered away, spooked by the noise and commotion of the gathering crowd.   Note: According to the Wildlife Act of 1972, [harming such creatures] carries a penalty of 3 to 7 years in prison and a fine of ₹25,000.                                             Palayam Nizar Ahamed                                  Copyright reserved to the publisher.
