Men tend to say yes to attractive women without really scrutinizing whether or not they are trustworthy. But scientists have shown, for the first time, that a drug may be able to overcome this “honey trap,” and help men make more rational decisions.Nearly 100 men participated in the study; half were given  MINOCYCLINE , an antibiotic normally used to treat acne, and half were given a placebo. After four days of this drug regimen, participants played a computerized one-on-one trust game with eight different women, based only on pictures of the female players.In each round, the male player was given $13 and shown a picture of one of the female players. The male player would choose how much money he wanted to keep and how much he wanted to give to the female player. The amount given away was then tripled, and the female player would decide whether to split the money with the man or keep it all for herself. Unbeknownst to the men, however, the women kept the money every time.The researchers also asked the men to evaluate the photos of the females to determine how trustworthy and attractive they appeared, on a scale of 0 to 10.Just as the researchers hypothesized, the men who had taken the placebo were more trusting of attractive women than unattractive ones: these men gave about 65 percent of their money to the women they rated as attractive, but only 50 percent to those they found unattractive. Those men on the antibiotics, though, gave approximately 50 percent to each group of women, regardless of their attractiveness. The RESULTS of the study appeared in Nature earlier this month.Scientists think the drug may clear the brain of distractions like, in this case, arousal, to improve focus for making rational decisions. And these scientists are not  the first to show that the antibiotic has effects other than getting rid of zits. Other studies have demonstrated that MINOCYCLINE can improve patients’ focus on social cues, encourage sober decision making and improve the symptoms associated with schizophrenia and depression.While taking risks in the presence of attractive women might be a good thing when men are looking for mates, that’s not necessarily the case when it comes to social or financial decisions. TECHNICS   FOR   BETTER  VIEWING.....  LAPTOP  YOUR  LAPTOP must be in an open position for you to use it. Here's the catch: The lid has a catch, or possibly two! The catch is either a button that you push in or a little slider that you push sideways to release the lid. After you release the catch (or catches), the laptop's lid pops  UP slightly. You can then raise it up to an angle best suited for viewing; use the figure as your guide.

Adjust the SCREEN so you view it at just the right angle.If your laptop has one catch that you must release to open the lid, the catch is probably in the middle. If your laptop has two catch release buttons, they’re on the front corners of the laptop's lid. The catches are on either the front or sides. The below figure offers some hints.The front side of the laptop is the side without all the connectors (although, in the future, laptops may have connectors on the front).It's possible to configure the laptop to be on without opening the lid — for example, when you’re using a docking station or an external Monitor . Some laptops allow you to play a music  Cd  when the lid is closed, even sporting special buttons to control the CD player.Be aware that your laptop's cooling system is designed based on the assumption that the lid will be open. Many laptop users who keep their systems on while closed have cooked their DISPLAYS............................... Beware!..Working on a laptop, you'll want to get the view just right, and bad angles and poor lighting are just a few things that can affect the visibility on the screen. When visibility is poor, completing detailed oriented tasks, such as data entry or composing company emails, may become more cumbersome, slowing productivity. Additionally, the harder it is to view the screen, the more breaks you'll need to take in between to reduce eyestrain. Changing the angle of the monitor is the most obvious fix, but for the small screens of mini laptops, you'll need a few more steps for optimum visibility.

Can the habit of using earphones while charging the laptop or going to sleep with the device still on the charger, be fatal? A malfunctioning DC adapter  attached to the power-supply cord can fail, leading to the flow of a 220-volt alternating current into a laptop, thus turning it into a death trap.Or, what if the battery gets overcharged and explodes, spilling lethal chemicals? While cell-phone chargers, kept on charge overnight, have known to explode, no such incident of laptop chargers exploding has been reported in kolkatha or perhaps in the entire country.While police could not say if any such death had occurred in India, two youngsters - one from Rumania and the other from New zeland  - were reportedly electrocuted while using their laptops in 2009. Flavia Boricea, 17, of Romania, died when she tried to plug in her laptop from her bathtub. Police suspected that she either tried to do so with wet hands or the laptop fell into the tub with the power cord still attached. Jason Allan Duke, 15, was electrocuted while listening to music on his laptop. He had reportedly run an extension cord from his home to his yard where he was working on a vehicle."When I read about it, I too was confused," says a hardware expert working in one of Sector-V's best known IT firms. "Even when a laptop adapter, for argument sake, gets heated, it'll hardly cause any damage to the laptop. It is never directly connected to the motherboard or any plastic casing in the laptop. So the damage to a laptop due to a heated adapter is minimal," he said. Only if a heated adapter is close to any combustible material can it cause fire, he said.Another expert, of a Bangalore-based multinational with offices in Sector-V, says short circuit in a laptop can be caused if it affects three areas where there is a circuit - battery, adapter and motherboard. "But when on an idle or stand-by mode, chances of short circuit minimizes for the laptop is barely functional. There have been ample instances when I've forgotten to shut down my laptop and kept it in the bag overnight. Yes, the laptop remains warm but that's all about it," he reasons.A senior IT professional with a city-based laptop manufacturer says, "A short circuit can't be ruled out though it is extremely rare. In that case, first the adapter will be burnt and then if very severe, the laptop. In a laptop, the power section of the mother board - or SMPS - is the first to get damaged. Only this can trigger a fire. But all said, the laptop should be in an active mode when drawing all the 6 volt DC power supply."This widely circulated email forward warns recipients that it may be dangerous to use a laptop computer in bed because of the possibility that the device could overheat and cause a fire. As evidence of this possible danger, the message relates the case of a 25 year old Wisconsin man identified as Arungopalam who died in a house fire on June 4th, 2010. According to the email forward, an investigation into this fire revealed that it was caused by a laptop left on the bed while Arun was sleeping. The message suggests that the cooling fan was unable to stop the computer from overheating because the vents underneath were blocked by its position on the soft bed, thus leading to the fatal fire. Sadly, news reports indicate that a 25 year old man named Arungopalam  died in a June 4th 2010 house fire in the village of Menomonee Falls, in the American state of Wisconsin. The fire started in the basement bedroom of the house. However, at the time of writing, it is still unclear if the fire was actually caused by an overheating laptop as claimed in the message. In response to my query about the fire, the Fire Chief at Menomonee Falls Fire Department explained that the "fire is still under investigation, and the cause is yet to be determined".Thus, the claim in the message that the fire was linked to a laptop computer has not been verified by fire investigators. That said, it should be noted that fires have indeed been caused by laptops left on beds or couches. CELLPHONES MAY CATCH FIRE,EXPLODE  = Tests ordered by authorities in East China found that products from a number of cellphone makers - including Samsung Group, Sony Mobile Communications AB(formerly Sony Ericsson), Motorola Mobility LLC and Nokia Corp - are substandard and can cause fires and explosions.The test, organized recently by the Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce, found 27 out of the 36 batches of sample cellphones, or 75 percent, were of inferior quality, with 20 batches failing to pass the battery heating test, one of the critical safety benchmarks.Other brands with problems were Royal Philips Electronics, HTC Corp, ZTE Corp, K-Touch,TCL Corp, Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, Hisense, Lenovo Group Ltd, Desay, Amoi, Vivo, Ebestand Coolpad..Jin Lei, a public relations officer of HTC China, said on Thursday the company will launch an investigation into the issue and release the results as soon as possible. Other brands,including Samsung, Huawei, Sony Mobile and Lenovo, did not respond by press time Thursday.The revelations came after a rash of cellphone explosions in recent years. In one of the      mysterious  cases, a young woman in beijing  had her leg and left hand burned in April after her cellphone exploded in her pants pocket.Public concern about phone quality prompted the authority to launch the inspection, and the test was carried out by a Guangzhou-based telecom-products test center designated by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, according to the Zhejiang administration.All the sample products were collected from authorized retail outlets of China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom - the country's largest telecom operators.Tests were carried out on the products' general function, battery capability and quality of chargers, and it has been found that most of the defective phones could not pass the heat exposure as required by the national standard."If a phone doesn't pass the heating test, it can easily lead to a short and start a fire, especially when it is kept in a hot place for a long time," said  a professor at Fudan University' Chemistry Department. "It is very dangerous."Other defects found by the authority include an inferior audio frequency, which will reduce the connection quality, and insufficient battery capacity.The chinese administration said it has combed the market for the substandard batches and launched probes into these cases. Retailers were requested to stop selling them and recall  those they had......
